About the event
Be part of this year’s Church in Action on Sunday, 19 October! This is a special Sunday where we won’t be gathering as usual – instead, we’re heading out into the community to serve, bless, and show God’s love in practical ways.
This is a family-based day with no kids program, so we encourage families to serve together. Please come dressed ready to get involved, whether it’s cleaning, gardening, or painting, don’t wear your Sunday Best!

Blessing Hukanui Marae:
Over the last couple of years, we have been on an intentional bi-cultural journey of loving and honouring Māori as Tangata Whenua. Part of this has been connecting and building relationship with Ngaati Wairere, the mana whenua of Hukanui Marae. Many of our staff and leaders across our church and group have visited the Marae, which has been a real blessing to us. That’s why we’ve decided to focus on Hukanui Marae for Church in Action, where we can come together as a church whaanau to love, serve, and bless their Marae. Our mahi will also directly support the Kōhanga Reo (Early Childhood Centre) based there, creating a beautiful space for the tamariki and their whaanau who use it every day.
We’ll be helping with gardening, general clean-up, and outdoor projects around the marae grounds. Some equipment will be provided, but if you have a rake, garden fork, shovel, or wheelbarrow, you’re encouraged to bring them along to help get the job done. And don’t forget your gumboots and garden gloves, you can expect some dirt, plenty of laughter, and the joy of making a tangible difference together.
Stay at Church:
Cooking a meal or baking for the community
Making gifts for the community
Prayer walk around our community
🍽️ After the activities, we’ll all come together at Activate Ruakura at 1:00pm for a sausage sizzle.
We will have our normal 6pm gathering at Ruakura with Stephen Hart speaking and Kai Night after the gathering.
